Yes Ichiban is your entry point to the best Japanese food in America — for kids taking their first bite, curious novices, and veteran diners chasing bluefin otoro. "Ichiban" (一番) means "number one," and that is the bar we hold: honest rankings, real menus, and guides written to actually teach.
How we rank
Our rankings are built on real, verifiable data, not opinion or pay-to-play:
- Ratings come from Google. Every restaurant's star rating and review count are pulled from Google, where thousands of real diners have weighed in. We rank by rating and review volume together, so a 4.8 from 3,000 people outranks a 5.0 from three.
- Menus are real and live. The dishes, prices and photos on each restaurant page come straight from that restaurant's own online-ordering system — the same menu their customers order from — and our "Order online" link takes you directly there.
- Only restaurants with a real menu appear. If we can't show you an actual menu, we don't list the restaurant. No empty pages, no dead ends.
Our editorial standards
- We never write or invent reviews. We show aggregate Google ratings only — we do not republish individual review text or fabricate testimonials.
- Our guides are written to teach. From "how to order sushi" to bluefin grades, every guide is meant to make you more confident, whatever your level.
- We keep it current. Menus, prices and ratings refresh from the source, and we publish new guides every week.
